The broadcast of The Amazing World of Gumball was discontinued in 2019 after the completion of its sixth season, which ended on a massive cliffhanger, leaving fans eager for more. However, a few years later, in September 2021, it was officially announced that the franchise would return with a new movie and a new TV series.
Initially, it was believed that the movie would serve as an “epic conclusion” to the original series and a bridge to a reboot or spin-off with the working title of “The Amazing World of Gumball: The Series”. But in June 2023, during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the show’s creator, Ben Bocquelet, and the series director, Mic Graves, presented a teaser for the continuation of The Amazing World of Gumball that revealed an unexpected surprise.
The teaser not only showed glimpses of the new animation styles that will be used, but also confirmed that the continuation of the show will not be a spin-off or a reboot, but rather a seventh season of the original program, which will continue the story from where it left off at the end of the sixth season.
Season 7 Release Date & Plot
During the Warner Bros Discovery Animation Studios panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in July 2024, it was revealed that the season 6 of The Amazing World of Gumball will answer the big question left open at the end of the season 6: what is in the Void?
Additionally, it was also announced that the episodes of the new season are scheduled to air at some point between 2025 and 2026, which suggests that the season 6 is not likely to premiere before the second half of 2025.
And while EIDR records indicate that the season will have 40 episodes, during the panel the titles of 36 of them were revealed. The first episode, titled “The Burger”, will follow Gumball and Darwin as they try to eat more healthily, bringing back the kind of mischief that fans love in the original series.
However, with the Void looming over them, it won’t be long before the new season starts to explore the consequences of this mystery that was left unresolved at the end of the season 6. Fans are eager to see how the story of Gumball and his friends will unfold and finally get answers about this enigmatic Void.
With the expected premiere date set for the second half of 2025, fans of The Amazing World of Gumball will have to wait a little longer, but the promise of a season filled with adventures, humor, and the resolution of the cliffhanger left by the 6th season will certainly be worth it.
